What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking to recruit a well-qualified, outstanding Mathematics teacher who is committed to transforming the lives of young people in the Leeds City region. Our standards are high and we expect our new staff to lead our continuing drive for excellence in the classroom. This is a career-changing opportunity for you to demonstrate your values in a thriving and growing brand new organisation. You must be able to teach both Mathematics and Further Mathematics.
The successful candidate will need a strong record of academic personal achievement in mathematics. They will need to be able to demonstrate significant enthusiasm for the subject matter, and a strong track record in nurturing a passion and love for the subject in the young people that they teach.
What the school offers its staff
Leeds Mathematics School (LMaS) will join a national network of Maths Schools and is a unique partnership between The GORSE Academies Trust and the University of Leeds. Due to open in September 2023, the partnership will bring together two of Leeds’ most successful education providers and seek to establish Leeds as a city where the study of mathematics is second to none.
The aim is to provide an enriched and immersive mathematical education and bring together the most talented students who have a passion and fascination for mathematics. Our vision is to bring exceptional mathematics teaching to Leeds, providing the inspiration and support for highly numerate students to flourish and prepare them for future opportunities that mathematics can bring. We are determined, through the establishment of this Maths School, to ensure that poverty and deprivation should in no way limit either the quality of a young person’s educational experience or the levels of achievement to which those students are able to rise.
We are keen to design an innovative curriculum and an approach to teaching and learning that better prepares students for the study of Mathematics and related subjects at undergraduate level. Equally important is bridging the gap between LMaS and the cutting-edge industries into which our highly qualified young people will pass.
Commitment to safeguarding
We are committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to full employment checks, including an enhanced DBS disclosure and barring service check. We promote diversity and aim to establish a workforce that reflects the population of Leeds.
