Our Opportunity

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Teacher of Mathematics to join our vibrant department.

Students have discrete Mathematics lessons that are independently set. The successful candidate must be able to teach or have the desire to learn to teach A-Level Mathematics to years 12-13.

We offer Edexcel GCSE Maths and Edexcel Statistics (for all) and AQA Further Maths (for some) at KS4, this then transfers to Edexcel A level Maths and Further Maths or AQA Level 3 Certificate of Mathematics (core-maths); we have over 90% of the sixth form undertaking some form of mathematics.

The college has 230 students in year 9-11 and 30 Sixth Form students.

Classes are broadly set by ability and each teacher has their own specialist teaching space. The mathematics team is strong, and all the team have led or continue to lead departments in their own right. There is experience, confidence and a real sense of a team who love maths with a passion!

Please come to visit our bright modern and spacious facilities and meet our four strong Mathematics team and get a real flavour of the superb learning environment and day to day running of this unique experience.

Role & Responsibility:

  • Understand, meet, and promote all aspects of the teacher standards.
  • Have excellent subject knowledge demonstrating a true passion and commitment to Mathematics; be a learner, continually reflecting and considering steps to make to develop and enhance practice.

The ability to teach outside of specialism in STEM related subjects is desirable and would be advantageous.

Early Careers Teachers with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/ECT) will also be considered for the role, and support will be provided.

Scarborough UTC

Under new leadership, Scarborough UTC is going from strength to strength. Following our Ofsted inspection in November 2022 and having been awarded ‘good’ across the board, our role is increasing rapidly as more and more local families make us their choice.

“A school of opportunity”; “Leaders and staff describe the school as a family. They feel mutually supported and value the attention leaders give them. Staff morale is extremely high.” “Behaviour is calm and respectful. In lessons, pupils are attentive and want to learn.” Ofsted 2022

We would encourage any applicant to have read the inspection report, which is the rightful and accurate summation of considerable work by the college staff.

It is our mission to enable all learners to enjoy and succeed in mathematics, it is a core element of our STEM offer as part of our UTC charter. We want learners to think about maths beyond what is tested in national examinations and to be equipped with an understanding of mathematics that will be relevant and useful in their future studies and/or in the world of work.

We provide learners with a deep conceptual understanding of mathematical principles, the ability to confidently communicate in precise mathematical language and apply this knowledge to the UTC specialisms of Engineering, Cyber and Health.

Our mathematics results this year are likely to be the best in the history of the college and we would like you to be a part of our success story.
