Teacher of Art and Design Technology job summary

We are currently looking to appoint a passionate and motivated Art and Design Technology specialist to teach Design Technology and Art in our vibrant and creative faculty. The school is rated ‘good’ by Ofsted and we continue to strive for excellence, both academically and personally, for our children and young people. As the school and department continues to grow, we are looking at expanding our staffing. The role would support an experienced member of staff or an ECT.

Art is a popular subject from key stage three through to A level. It is taught in a well thought through curriculum with a range of extra and super curricular opportunities available. The Art department is well resourced with a wide range of materials and techniques taught including ceramics and print making. Art has two large classrooms and a ceramics studio, supported alongside a specialist technician. GCSE take up is high, with strong outcomes for our young people. This leads to a good take up of Art at A level as part of our JMF6 curriculum offer.

Design Technology is a key faculty within the school and a popular choice at KS4, whilst also being offered at A level. It is a well-resourced department, with excellent levels of collaboration between teachers. The Technology classrooms are well-equipped with two food rooms, a textiles room, and two technology classrooms. At Key Stage 3 students study a range of topics, primarily based on Food and Nutrition, Product Design and Textiles. These are taught on a rotation and lead to a high take up of GCSEs in this area. We are at an exciting time in our department due to updating schemes of work to make them more skills based and engaging to all students.

There are two technicians working in the well-equipped Technology Department, and one in the Art department. There is a range of equipment to support learning, and engagement with wider opportunities, including connections across the OX14 Learning Partnership.
