Teacher of Art and Photography job summary

Discover Art, Design, and Technology at Crawshaw HERE

"The Art, Design & Technology Faculty at Crawshaw is a vibrant hub of creativity and innovation. Our students are curious and eager to explore, supported by a collaborative and encouraging environment — with plenty of unexpected bursts of artistic brilliance along the way!"

Our Faculty Vision - The Design Faculty consists of both Design and Art areas, having one Programme Leader overseeing both Art and Design. Both subjects follow the KS3 National Curriculum 2013 documentation for guidance, the Art KS3 curriculum has recently been rejuvenated and there is opportunity to contribute to its further development.

Our Team – As a Team, we work together and play to each other’s strengths. Each member of our Team is a valued colleague and as such we respect and support one another. We are able to ask for advice from each other without feeling silly or inadequate, we also give our colleagues praise and recognition where it is due. We can take on board and act on developmental feedback given without any misconception of feeling it being a weakness, or ‘doing it wrong’. As teaching professionals, we are always learning…. that is one of the keys to success. Every staff member has their own specialisms, and we share our skills in regular CPD sessions. All our Team are fully supported in the planning and delivery of excellent lessons through Teaching and Learning CPD and department sessions. The Faculty Leader has an open-door policy and any support needed is actioned quickly. Our team deliver AQA GSCE Art and Design at KS4; Graphic Design, Textiles Design, 3D Design, Fine Art and Photography and our results are in line with National percentages. We take a group of Year 11 Design and Art students to London to visit the Tate Art Gallery every year at Christmas, giving students and staff a valuable educational experience.

Enrichment - We take part in various creative initiatives, including working with various schools, Leeds Creative Skills, and Leeds University. We arrange an annual whole school Art, Design & Technology exhibition that showcases all student’s achievements at KS4. We nurture students' creativity by extra-curricular activities after school through Art and Design clubs, additionally contributing to Drama school productions. School visits and guest speakers are one of our areas for development and any contribution to these would be gratefully appreciated.

Opportunities for Growth - Progression is the norm in our team, not the exception. Nearly every member of our faculty holds an additional responsibility, and, in the next few years, the position of Programme Leader of Design and Art will become available for the right candidate!
