We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated full-time Teacher of PE and Maths to join our school from September 2022 fixed term for one year due to restructuring.
This is an excellent opportunity for an inspirational teacher to build on recent successes and further raise aspirations and outcomes. Applications from NQTs/ECT's are welcomed. The PE Department at The Castle School takes great pride in providing excellent provision in both KS3 and KS4 core PE where all students have 2 hours per week on the timetable. We offer GCSE PE and BTEC Sport in KS4 and have had excellent results in both courses. A great strength of the department is providing a rich and diverse enrichment programme which allows students to participate in activities both at lunch and afterschool. We have also had lots of success in providing fixtures for the House system, local school sport and have had success in both Regional and National competitions. Participation is a key component for the departments success, and we have had 80% of students engage in some form of Sport and Exercise.
The Maths Faculty is made up of eleven teachers, many of whom teach across two subjects. All the team are dedicated to continually developing the Maths curriculum offered to students and working together on pedagogy in order to deliver lessons which help pupils develop an understanding and love of Maths.
At The Castle School we have very high expectations of ourselves and of our students. We invest heavily in our staff and have a superb reputation for outstanding support and development for teachers, particularly for ECTs. The Castle School is an outstanding school; it is good to have this recognised by OFSTED but it is more important that our students continue to receive the best education we can give them. Our students achieve some of the best exam results in the UK. We continue to achieve the top attendance rate in Somerset and that seems to me to be a good indicator of how much students enjoy school. We have been one of the top schools nationally for a number of years and are heavily oversubscribed with about 550 applications a year for 240 places.
This doesn’t just happen of course. We work hard for our students and instil a positive learning ethos that is appreciative of others and supportive. Students have high aspirations and expectations of us as we do of them. Students will tell you the best thing about the school is the teachers and teachers will say the best thing about the school are the children and the staff who they work with. Children here achieve more than expected progress but it is critical to me that every child has a sense of belonging and worth, and that every child participates in enrichment and learning. We all know that exam results matter, they allow our students to progress in their education and to embark upon careers, but no less important is the kind of person they become. This leads to happy positive relationships, good health and to go on and live happy, prosperous (in every sense) and fulfilled lives. That is what we want for every single one of our children.
