Together we offer the “Vesey Experience”: Inspirational teaching and outstanding learning academic excellence, a spirit of enquiry and curiosity. Enrichment opportunities building leadership, independence and resilience. A warm, outward-looking community, celebrating diversity and supporting others. We seek to nourish and develop global citizens, who are well-equipped for life beyond BVGS.
Founded in 1527, Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School has the mission to provide inspiration and excellence to able boys and girls from Birmingham and across the Midlands. We are one of the leading state schools nationally.
We seek to build on the talents of our students so that they become scholars with a deep knowledge, understanding and life-long enthusiasm for our challenging academic curriculum, which includes the prestigious Mandarin Excellence Programme.
At ‘A’ level, standards have been consistently high over the last 7 years with on average 82% of the grades being attained at A*-B and around 70% of students going to study at Russell Group universities. We have an excellent record of Oxbridge and Ivy League success with 33 offers to these world-class institutions in the last three years (2017-2019).
Attainment at GCSE is rising with, in 2019, 73% of all grades at Grade 7 or better (the modal grade for Year 11 was a grade 9), and progress is outstanding.
Our School also opens doors by offering, from Year 7 upwards, all students the opportunity to learn a new musical instrument and take up new sports. Our Vesey family benefits from a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities from debating, drama, music and chess to rowing, rugby, hockey, cricket and netball. Our music and sport provision frequently achieve national recognition.
