South Bromsgrove High School was rebuilt under the PFI scheme in 2006 and still looks and feels new. Visitors comment on the “business like” feel and, despite housing over 1300 students, there always seems to be plenty of space. Most of our students enter from our three main feeder schools, Aston Fields Middle, St John’s C of E Middle, and Alvechurch Middle. Our Sixth Form averages 380 students, 10% of whom enter from other schools. Sixth Form students have a separate (and very large!) common room and a private study area and provide an excellent role model for our students in Years 9-11. Relationships throughout school are very positive and courtesy and respect underpin our work. The majority of teachers are involved in delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (as befits the largest school-based centre for the Award in the world), one of many significant enrichment and character building programmes the school offers. The school became an Academy Trust in November 2013, in a smooth transition supported by our staff. As one of only 500 National Teaching Schools (designated 2014), South Bromsgrove High is committed to partnership working and, in particular, Initial Teacher Training , School to School support, and Leadership Development. Many of our staff are involved in supporting this work. Finally – we take our colleagues’ career development very seriously here. This is a statement claimed by many schools, but it is a key principle that I hold dearly to - having been the recipient of sound advice and support myself through earlier stages in my career. I can guarantee that you will receive all the support you need to be successful in this role, should you be appointed. Nearly a third of our staff have been promoted internally to leadership and management posts. This is alongside the appointment of colleagues to the role of Specialist Leader of Education (SLE). The school has a comprehensive induction programme for new colleagues and delivers programmes to develop NQTs and RQTs (Recently Qualified Teachers). As a Teaching School we are the licence holder for delivery of the suite of National Professional Qualifications (i.e. Middle Leader, Senior Leader and Headteacher) within the Worcestershire Global Leadership Academy and therefore also have access to nationally accredited programmes to support colleagues’ professional development. If you are looking to work in a forward-thinking school and you are committed to securing the best outcomes for students – then we look forward to your application.
