What the school offers its staff

Ten Reasons to work at The Ladder School

1. New school, with new opportunities, a bespoke curriculum, the chances to shape the future of education for vulnerable young people.

2. A Principal that is supportive, values people and appreciates the contributions of others and takes nothing for granted.

3. A sensible approach to work-life balance! With fewer students there is less marking, with fewer year groups there are fewer after school events and a smaller team of staff, means more collaboration, to reduce unnecessary work!

4. A school that is part of an innovative and nationally significant Multi Academy Trust, which has a diverse range of schools that encompasses all types of educational settings.

5. A school like no other in the area! The Ladder School is unique in offering high quality Alternative Provision and a range of opportunities for young people to succeed.

6. Opportunities for Continued Professional Development within the Trust and beyond. The Trust provides accredited courses and the opportunity to collaborate and network with other staff in schools within the Trust. Staff have access to external bodies that offer CPD.

7. A MAT with a proven track record of providing progression and development opportunities Trust-wide.

8. Educational values that matter! The Ladder School focuses on High Standards, Daring to Dream, Traditional Values, Success and Personalised Support. These also reflect the values of the wider Mercian family of schools.

9. A winner of the national Wellbeing Award for Schools, thereby, demonstrating our commitment to staff and student wellbeing. Staff have free parking and access to our Employee Assist Programme, plus several additional benefits.

10. Due to the size of The Ladder School, we offer a flexible approach to working and opportunities to change working patterns as the school grows.

We are an Alternative Provision Free School located in Walsall Town Centre. The Ladder School was established in January 2019 and has now moved in to a brand new, purpose-built building based on the edge of Walsall town centre where there are excellent links to the local and wider community. Over the coming years we will continue to grow and become the ‘go to place’ for alternative provision in the borough.

At The Ladder School, we recognise that mainstream school does not suit all young people and we are here to offer a second chance. We work on a commissioning basis, that means that a school or the Local Authority must approach to place a student. Unfortunately, we cannot accept direct referrals from parents/carers.

The staff work incredibly hard to ensure our students make the most of the opportunities that they get whist they are with us. Unlike other alternative provisions, we offer a range of GCSE courses, supplemented with some vocational courses to ensure students get a well-rounded education.

We are a positive environment, that uses praise and encouragement to enable our students to see things differently. We have a set of values that underpin everything we do.
