Our ideal candidate must be passionate about Chemistry and ready to nurture enquiry. This commitment, and a strong Chemistry degree or related background is very important to us.

The Chemistry department is housed within a purpose-built science block. These excellent facilities consist of four Chemistry laboratories, a large well-equipped modern prep room and a teacher’s work area. The department is an innovative, friendly and experienced team, who have worked together for a number of years and we are eager to add fresh ideas and energy to the department.

Our results are outstanding and we always have a large A-level cohort of around 75-80 students per year group, meaning there is always opportunity for A-level teaching. The academic nature of the school also allows the opportunity to offer exciting supra-curricular teaching, extra-curricular activities and the chance to support a large number of medical applications as well as Chemistry related course at elite universities.

At Reading School, we have a clear educational philosophy and a deeply rooted commitment to social mobility. In all we do we seek to nurture character and develop academic excellence, and we know that what we do really matters. In 2023, the school was rated the Sunday Times South East State School of the Year.

We are a short walk from central Reading and close to transport links. Reading is a diverse place to live with arts, culture and heritage at the heart of the town.
