Teacher of Chemistry job summary
This is an excellent opportunity to join a friendly, dynamic Ofsted rated ‘good’ school where all can thrive. We value our staff and want to develop them to the full in a supportive environment. We are looking for a candidate who has a deep passion for Chemistry, is forward thinking, innovative and committed to achieving excellence in all areas. As a department, Science is leading on the implementation of a knowledge-rich curriculum. In KS3, students study a knowledge-rich curriculum that focuses on the ten big ideas of Science education in order to develop the understanding required for all students to become well-rounded scientists. In KS4 pupils can study either the separate Science or combined Science specifications which offer pupils the opportunity to follow their academic passions at an appropriately challenging depth. The successful candidate will work closely with the existing specialists within the department and play a key role in the further development of the Science curriculum in addition to their teaching responsibilities. Student outcomes are continuously improving, with a P8 of 0.51 in combined science in 2019. Our separate Science Chemistry class also achieved a 2019 P8 of 0.51. We also run a highly successful and popular A Level Science programme with recent leavers going on to study engineering and medicine at top universities. Chemistry students regularly achieve over 50% A*-B and positive L3VA scores at A Level. Students are given opportunities to further develop their interested through a wide range of enrichment activities which include our Science club at KS3, Science challenges at KS4, and Olympiads at KS5. This enrichment offer is something the successful candidate will play a vital role in moving forward.
