Teacher of Childcare & Education job summary
We are seeking to appoint an inspirational teacher to join our large, successful and dynamic Psychology and Health & Social Care department. We offer A-Level Psychology, Criminology, vocational courses in Health & Social Care as well as the first wave of T-Levels in both Health, and Education & Childcare. The ability to contribute to other subjects in the curriculum area would be an advantage, but is not essential. You will be part of a successful and supportive team who are committed to gaining the best from their students.
Oldham Sixth Form College was one of a small number of colleges chosen to deliver the first cohort of T Levels. We currently successfully deliver T Levels in Digital and Health, and will be adding Accounting, Education and Childcare and Science T Levels to the curriculum offer from September 2023. Our vocational cohort has a strong progression rate to university and the department offers a range of extra-curricular activities, including work experience for vocational students, in order to ensure they are well placed when choosing their next steps. This post is suitable for both experienced and newly qualified teachers.
Commitment to safeguarding
As part of our safeguarding commitment and promoting the welfare of children any offers of employment will be subject to satisfactory DBS checks as part of the pre-employment procedures on all potential new employees. Oldham Sixth Form College is an Equal Opportunities Employer and welcomes applications from underrepresented groups and ethnic minorities.

Oldham Sixth Form College is a large and diverse sixth form college specialising in Advanced Level courses. We have an excellent reputation for academic and vocational achievement, comprehensive pastoral care and extensive enrichment. Our mission is focussed on providing an inclusive, broad, high quality education for students in the local area and this is achieved through a core focus on teaching and learning. Our curriculum offers excellence and breadth. We offer the widest choice of A Levels in the area as well as a range of BTECs and T Levels. A number of our students resit Maths or English GCSE as part of their programme and we have a very small level 2 programme. Students are supported by our team of Progress Tutors. Students benefit from a wide range of additional activities to support them and their learning. We were proud to have this recognised by the Educate North in 2020 with their Community Engagement Award for the Essential Life Skills programme.
OSFC was a founding partner in the thriving Pinnacle Learning Trust. OSFC was graded 'Good' by Ofsted in 2017, receiving a glowing report and is currently self-assessing as ‘Outstanding’. The outstanding achievement and progression rates of all our students led to the College receiving the Social Mobility Award at the 2017 Educate North Awards. Our outcomes continue to be very strong and we are proud of the year on year successes and achievements of our students and staff. The College was awarded Teaching School status in recognition of its impressive track record in developing teachers and sharing best practice and is now the Delivery Lead for NPQs on behalf of East Manchester Teaching School Hub. We are also proud to be the only Sixth Form College designated as an Associate Research School for the EEF’s Research Schools Network, reflecting and reinforcing our close working relationship with Oldham Research School and commitment to evidence-informed practice. In 2020 we were designated as an EdTech Demonstrator School by the DfE supporting over 100 schools with their remote learning provision and digital strategies. Our work in this area was also recognised by the SFCA in 2021 with their Curriculum Innovation Award.
These designations allow the Trust to provide staff with a range of professional development opportunities beyond their main role in college, including designation as Evidence Leads in Education for the Research School, delivery of school to school support, CPD facilitation and support for trainee teachers. Join us and you will become part of a high quality, forward thinking educational establishment committed to meeting the needs of the community it serves.
