About Birchwood High School

Birchwood High School is a welcoming and inclusive secondary school, offering eight forms of entry for students in Years 7 to 11, along with a thriving Sixth Form that provides a diverse range of A-Level and BTEC courses. With a strong all-ability ethos, we are committed to ensuring that every student is valued, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential. As a non-selective, co-educational school, we take pride in serving our local community and delivering a high-quality education that empowers young people for the future.

We are delighted to have been judged ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted (January 2025), reflecting our dedication to educational excellence.

Situated in Bishop’s Stortford, our school enjoys an attractive, open setting near the town centre and train station, with excellent transport links to London, Cambridge, and beyond.

We are seeking to appoint, for September 2025 or sooner if available, an outstanding Teacher of Computer Science to join our motivated and supportive Technology Faculty. The successful candidate will need to be an enthusiastic, inspiring and motivating teacher who can demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and will ensure students have high aspirations and achieve their best. The role would suit an experienced teacher or an ambitious and skilled new teacher.

This position is available due to an expansion in the subject. Computing is taught to all of years 7 and 8, and it is very popular in year 9 with 7 classes being taught. At GCSE we offer IT and computer science, and at A-Level we offer computer science, BTEC IT and BTEC Esports.
