What skills and experience we're looking for

Cantell School is proud to be a heavily oversubscribed, inclusive comprehensive school with a student intake that reflects a wonderfully diverse and vibrant local community. Our fundamental mission is to provide an exceptional learning experience for every student so that they may lead a happy and successful life now and in the future.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and innovative Teacher of Design and Technology for September 2024 (or earlier if available). This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate teacher to become part of a highly collaborative and multi-disciplined team. The department offers some excellent facilities, including two fully equipped workshops and food rooms, both with full time Technicians. The successful applicant will actively contribute to the development plan for the continuous improvement of our Design and Technology offer and extend the breadth of extra-curricular opportunities offered by the department through clubs, visits and trips.

As a consistently outstanding teacher with a real passion for the subject, the applicant will possess the vision and drive for continuing school improvement and raising attainment. The post provides an excellent opportunity to develop a career within an attractive and well-resourced working environment, supported by a talented and dedicated team of staff and would be suitable for an exceptional ECT or experienced teacher. This role would involve teaching Design and Technology at both KS3 and KS4 level. Experience of teaching Design and Technology is essential.

“Pupils are rightly proud to attend Cantell School. They feel happy, safe and well cared for. Pupils enjoy being part of the ‘Cantell Family’. They like the school’s diversity. As one pupil said, ‘It is a vibrant place to learn.’” Ofsted, February 2023

We will offer the successful applicant:

  • A committed and extremely supportive staff team
  • An extensive and personalised CPD programme
  • The opportunity to make a real difference to our students
  • A thriving community of students and parents/carers

We wish to appoint candidates with:

  • Ability to promote high quality teaching and learning
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and motivational skills
  • A passion for improving students' lives and opportunities
  • High levels of ambition and drive for outstanding performance from staff and students

The school is committed to safeguarding children and all applicants are subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Although applications will be processed as they arrive, an earlier closing date may be made before this if a successful candidate is found.
