What skills and experience we're looking for

We are currently looking to appoint a passionate and motivated Design Technology specialist (preference to Product Design) to teach Design Technology and Art in our vibrant and creative faculty. The school is rated ‘good’ by Ofsted and we continue to strive for excellence, both academically and personally, for our children and young people. As the school and department continues to grow, we are looking at expanding our staffing. The role would support an experienced member of staff or an ECT.

What the school offers its staff

Our collaborative ethos of Aspiration, Opportunity and Integrity are at the heart of Fitzharrys’ sustained success. We are a good school (Ofsted, June 2016) with strong results that improve year on year. Ofsted praised our “warm and welcoming culture with a shared drive for continual improvement”. This is a very special place, and we are looking for the right candidate who is excited at the prospect of joining us and taking such a key role in our continued success in Design Technology.

All Fitzharrys staff benefit from our induction programme and our comprehensive CPD programme as part of a school community committed to getting the best from everyone. Through our focus on high quality teaching and learning, and excellent behaviour, our school continues to grow and develop.

Further details about the role

Design Technology is a key faculty within the school and a popular choice at KS4 and at A level. It is a well-resourced department, with excellent levels of collaboration between teachers. The Technology classrooms are well-equipped with two food rooms, a textiles rooms, and 2 technology classrooms. At Key Stage 3 students study a range of topics, primarily based on Food and Nutrition and Product Design. These are taught on a rotation and lead to a high take up of GCSEs in each subject. We also teach A level Technology as part of the JMF6 curriculum offer. We are at an exciting time in our department due to updating schemes of work to make them more skills based and engaging to all students.

There are 2 technicians working in the well-equipped Technology Department. There is a range of equipment to support learning, and engagement with wider opportunities, including connections across the OX14 Learning Partnership. Design Technology is a distinct department within the Arts and Performance Faculty. The Art department is also well resourced with a wide range of materials and techniques taught including ceramics and print making. Art has two large classrooms and a ceramics studio, supported alongside a specialist technician.

We are proud of our students, and in turn they are proud to be part of the Fitzharrys community. Parents are supportive of the work of the school, recognising our high aspirations for every student who attends; they are both challenged to achieve highly, and supported in doing so.

This is an exciting time to join us in our continued development. If you are committed to working with us and helping our pupils and students realise their potential, we encourage you to apply.

Commitment to safeguarding

Abingdon Learning Trust is committed to safeguarding children and young people. All post holders in regulated activity are subject to appropriate vetting procedures and a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced check.
