Teacher of Drama job summary

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated and inspirational teacher of Drama.
We are expanding our successful and engaging Performing Arts department with the addition of a full time drama specialist. From September, we will be adding drama lessons to the curriculum for years 7, 8 and 9, helping our students build resilience, compassion, humour and dedication to the arts. These sessions will also help develop oracy skills such as communication and appropriate language usage, recognising that these are areas that need to be learned, just like any other social skills. Students can then progress to study performing arts at Key Stage 4, with either a dance or drama pathway as an option.

We currently have a large hall with staging and a range of lighting and sound equipment including head microphones. To provide suitable teaching space, we are creating a specialised drama/dance studio for September, which will ultimately include lighting rigs, full blackbox effect and specialised dance flooring.

Drama staff will work closely with music and dance specialists within the department to provide a balanced performing arts curriculum, including an abundance of opportunities for extracurricular endeavours, including musical theatre performances and department showcases.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our newly appointed Headteacher to work alongside a highly supportive governing body, and an incredible group of staff who will always go the extra mile for our students.
To find out more, please download and read through the application pack. If you have any questions regarding this vacancy please contact Assistant Headteacher, Caroline Stephen via email: Caroline.Stephen@churchillcc.org
Completed applications should be returned to Heather Bell, Headteacher’s PA, via email: heather.bell@churchillcc.org

We are an equal opportunities employer strongly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Churchill Community College is a dynamic, exciting place to work with many opportunities available for staff and students. We have been designated a National Teaching and Support School by the DfE and we also lead the ‘The Great North Maths Hub’ for the North of England alongside the North Tyneside Learning Trust. Our work as a teaching school has developed rapidly this year and we have recently been awarded a bid of over £400,000 to support the development of oracy skills in schools north of the Tyne. We have provided a very significant level of support at leadership team level and in teaching and learning to another local secondary school at the request of the local authority. We are one of two lead schools for the Northumbria University PE SCITT and work closely on ITT provision with Durham University, Sunderland and Newcastle too; as well as supporting Schools Direct provision. This work is all evidence of our continuing commitment to high quality professional development for those who work in education.

Our most recent OfSTED Inspection in March 2019 graded us as Good across all areas. We are very proud of the outcome of the report because it reflects the years of hard work and commitment by our staff to build the quality of provision it evidences.
