Teacher of Drama / Inaugurator of Drama at NGHS job summary

A unique and fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the 2020 West Midlands Secondary School of the Year as Teacher of Drama from September 2021. NGHS will welcome 30 additional girls in September as part of the Selective Schools Expansion Fund and the curriculum will be enhanced to include the teaching of Drama for KS3 with A-level Theatre Studies being offered from 2022. Our talented, friendly English & Arts Faculty therefore look forward to welcoming a new member of staff to launch this exciting new subject, which has the full support of governors and senior leaders. The ability to teach Drama/Theatre Studies to A-level is essential and (for a full time post), the successful candidate should be able to teach English in at least KS3 and ideally GCSE (with additional coaching/support as necessary).

As part of the SSEF, a new classroom block, dining hall and science laboratory is being built. The current dining room will be converted to your new drama studio in January 2022, thus meaning some creative arrangements will be necessary in the autumn term. We look forward to discussing these at interview.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to put in place their own schemes of learning, assessment and extra-curricular enrichment programme. They will also have a considerable say in the layout and design of the drama space.

This post is ideally Full Time, but can be offered Part Time (without English teaching) for an exceptional candidate. It is expected that the successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Faculty and our music teacher and Headteacher (who has a performing arts background) to organise and direct an annual school production as well as performance evenings during the academic year.

More information can be found in the Application Pack below and any queries can be sent to the Headteacher via headteacher@nghs.org.uk

NGHS is an outstanding, selective girls school. The school is heavily oversubscribed at Year 7 entry and, since 2019, also at A-level with applications coming from girls in other 11-16 and 11-18 schools. Our students are kind, considerate and keen to learn. They and their parents expect high standards of knowledge and teaching and, in turn, offer commitment and collaboration in their learning. NGHS is an exciting and vibrant school in which to work. Recent teacher appointments have included an NQT and a teacher with 25 years of experience as a Head of Department. We will always appoint the best candidate for the post regardless of salary scale.

Our staff body is truly outstanding. Turnover is low with many colleagues forming firm friendships and lots of lively chatter in the staffroom at lunchtime. The school takes the wellbeing of staff very seriously and the Headteacher has devised a Wellbeing Charter, which can be found in the pack. This includes counselling support and two Wellbeing Officers who support students (and staff) outside of lessons. The school has a flexible approach to matters of childcare and family life wherever possible with colleagues covering for each other at times of crisis.

Our Ofsted report from October 2019 (under the new framework) gives a through evaluation of our work and we were delighted that our hard work and commitment to our students' development resulted in us maintaining our outstanding status.

Covid-secure tours of the school can take place w/c 22 February by prior arrangement. Contact headteacher@nghs.org.uk to arrange this or for an informal discussion about the post via video-call.

We look forward to receiving your application.

Commitment to safeguarding

The school priorities the well-being, safety and safeguarding of all pupils and staff. More information can be found on our website (Safeguarding & Child Protection policy). We also comply with all aspects of Keeping Children Safe in Education and this includes carrying out Police checks for those who have lived abroad as well as online searches for appointed candidates.
