What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint a teacher of drama from Sep 1st 2024.

Drama is part of the Performing Arts Faculty which is made up of two other teachers working in specialist music and drama classrooms. The successful candidate will have ‘ownership’ of the drama studio. The Performing Arts department is striving to become the premier faculty in the academy and they have recently created the Miltoncross Show Team who perform to year groups each morning before assembly. It would be excellent to see the new postholder bring drama at Miltoncross to life by embracing extra-curricular clubs, visits and whole school dramatic performances. The post is suitable for an experienced teacher. We are looking for somebody who is committed, confident and excited about bringing drama alive and creating a real buzz around it. They are likely already a proven practitioner rather than an ECT.

The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in their subject and will be somebody who stays abreast of current thinking in Drama teaching and Drama pedagogy because they love their subject and want children to love it too. They, like all of us, will be relentless in their desire to ensure that students at Miltoncross far outstrip their peers locally and nationally in Drama GCSE.

What the school offers its staff

We offer a supportive and collegiate working environment where we all have the same goal - outstanding learning for children. We are now two years into building a fresh, optimistic and sustainable culture where staff and students are always fulfilled because they know that they are doing their best work for the right reasons. Our systems and structures are designed to liberate staff and students, freeing us all up from the challenges of uncertainty and relentless workload which in turn enables creativity, excitement and essentially, it makes coming to school enjoyable for all! To understand this better, do ask to read our Blueprint for Brilliance which outlines everything we do, why and how. This could really help you make an informed decision about whether you should apply for this role or not. We think you should!

Staff and students enjoy their days in excellent modern buildings with superb facilities. We are located on the West of Portsmouth and access is easy from the M27 or A27. Many staff commute easily from Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and West Sussex either by car or by public transport. We are seeking to appoint a teacher of drama from Sep 1st 2024.
