JOB DESCRIPTION
For January 2022, we are seeking to appoint an outstanding Teacher of Economics to join our high performing and outstanding department at Avanti Secondary School. The successful applicant should be able to deliver all levels of Economics at GCSE and A Level. This position is suited for an NQT or a teacher with experience looking to develop their career.
Avanti Secondary School is one of the top performing schools in the country based on GCSE outcomes and has seen an exponential rise in students taking the economics option at both KS4 and KS5. Students enjoy the outstanding teaching within the department, and are closely supported in achieving their academic goals. Our students are amongst the keenest of learners, who greatly motivate our teachers.
The role encompasses the teaching of economics at GCSE and A level, to support the head of department with development of the curriculum to aid our learners, to actively contribute to the promotion and support of the subject within the school e.g. enterprise days, trips, assemblies etc.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
• Be responsible for the preparation and development of teaching materials, teaching programmes and pastoral arrangements as appropriate
• Be aware of pupils’ capabilities, their prior knowledge and plan teaching and differentiate appropriately to build on these, demonstrating knowledge and understanding of how pupils learn
• Establish a safe, purposeful and stimulating environment for pupils, rooted in mutual respect and establish a framework for discipline with a range of strategies, using praise, sanctions and rewards consistently and fairly
• Be a positive role model and demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviour, which are expected of pupils
• Be responsible for improving your teaching through participating fully in training and development opportunities identified by the school or as developed as an outcome of your Performance Management
• Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school, raising any concerns following school protocol/procedures
