What skills and experience we're looking for
Teacher of Economics
We are a high performing school and have a relentless focus on high standards in all that we do. We have a total belief that every student can be successful regardless of their starting point and we have a strong culture of excellence to achieve this. Students make exceptional progress during their time at Paddington and we are consistently in the top 1% of schools in the country for student progress.
We ensure that our classrooms are disruption-free so our teachers can focus on the main thing – teaching and learning. We have effective behaviour systems in place which means that behaviour is well-managed and teacher time is protected. We are renowned for the positive environment and strong relationships between staff and students. We like to keep messages and systems simple and aim to reduce workload by doing so.
Paddington Academy is a mixed Academy for 1,200 students aged 11-18. The Academy was recently judged to be outstanding by OFSTED in March 2023 maintaining its outstanding judgement from 2011. Paddington has been described by the Education Minister as a ‘jewel in the crown of state education’. Our thriving and oversubscribed Academy also has a large Sixth Form with over 300 students. Students excel in our Sixth Form and achieve exceptional outcomes which enables them to achieve their next step which for the vast majority of students is university. 95% of students went to university, with 45% gaining a place at a Russell Group university in 2024.
We are seeking an exceptional teacher to join our high-performing and well-supported Economics team, as we continue to grow and strengthen our KS5 provision. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional who is passionate about Economics, committed to excellence in the classroom, and eager to inspire a deep interest in the subject among all students.
We are looking for a teacher who is:
Enthusiastic about their subject and motivated to deliver engaging, high-quality lessons.
Committed to developing students’ understanding of economic principles, analytical thinking, and evaluative writing.
Eager to contribute to a department that values collaboration, professional development, and research-informed teaching.
Economics is well-established subject at Paddington Academy, taught at KS5. It is a popular option at A Level, with growing student numbers and consistently strong outcomes. Our students are curious, ambitious, and keen to understand how economic theory applies to the real world—from markets and government intervention to macroeconomic policy and global trade.
Our Economics curriculum is rigorous and coherent. We follow the Edexcel specification, and our schemes of work are designed to challenge students while developing their knowledge and skills in a structured and supportive way. This year, we have focused on resequencing the Year 12 curriculum to strengthen the progression from microeconomics foundations through to more complex macroeconomic themes, ensuring that students are well-prepared for Year 13 and final assessments.
At Paddington Academy, the teaching of Economics is rooted in strong subject pedagogy and evidence-informed practice. ‘Curriculum Masterclasses’ give teachers the opportunity to share expertise, strengthen subject knowledge, and collaboratively plan lessons. These sessions focus on improving students’ extended writing, use of diagrams and data, and their ability to apply economic models and theories to real-world scenarios.
We also benefit from collaboration across United Learning where we are able to benefit from the sharing of best practice, ideas, resources, and subject-specific CPD.
Paddington Academy is the lead school for United Teaching national SCITT and is a designated Teaching School Hub. Whether you are an experienced teacher or an ECT, you will be supported by expert colleagues, high-quality training, and a national network of English teachers within United Learning.
The ideal candidate will:
Be passionate about their subject
Be committed to continually improving their teaching and learning;
Be committed to our ethos of high expectations
Have the belief that every student can be successful
Have the desire to make a real difference to the lives of our students
Have experience of leading a Teaching and Learning initiative in their department
