Teacher of English job summary
We are looking for a creative, enthusiastic and passionate English teacher to join our English team either on a full or part time basis.
This is an exciting time to join our school as we plan to transition from being a well-established Middle School into a community-focussed, values-led Church of England Secondary School. As a school, we are caring, loving and supportive with high aspirations for all. We promote inclusion, we are proud to belong and we value each individual. Our vision is to ‘Live life in all its fullness’. For both students and staff, we choose to live our values, being the best we can be in community.
This is a wonderful opportunity for a talented colleague to join us as we continue to teach our students in Years 5 to 8 but also as we develop our curriculum further through Years 9 to 11 so our students can be successful at GCSE Level. This would be a perfect opportunity for a teacher new to the profession (we have a great track record of supporting ECTs) or for an experienced teacher looking to work in a dynamic, supportive team. We currently have four full-time members of the English team and other team members also teach in the department (including myself as Headteacher). English is a well-led and well-resourced area of the curriculum. Full details of the schemes of work can be accessed on the school website – Learning -> Subjects -> English. There is a significant teaching commitment attached to this post and the postholder will also look after a tutor group.
The successful candidate will;
Join a school that offers a genuine opportunity for career development
Be able to contribute to the wider improvement of the school
Be driven and committed to our students.
Visits to the school are welcomed. Please contact Romana Tomei, Business & Operations Manager, at rtomei@holywellschool.co.uk to arrange an appointment or for an informal conversation about the role. For further information , please view the attached letter of introduction, job description and person specification. All applications must be received via MyNewTerm by the closing date. We reserve the right to withdraw the advert should a suitable candidate be found before the closing date.
Closing date: Thursday 14th November 2024 (Noon)

Holywell School is a caring, distinctively Christian, community-focussed Church of England School. We aim to continue the historic tradition of Church of England Schools by providing a Christian Values-inspired education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. As a school, we are a loving, supportive community with high aspirations for all. We promote inclusion, we are proud to belong and we value each individual. We look after each other, believe in second chances and aim to be the best we can be so we can serve and support the common good.
Our vision is to ‘Live life in all its fullness’. We aim to be an outstanding Christian learning community where everyone is valued as a unique individual and where everyone feels safe. We will aim to be the best we can possibly be, to treat others as we wish to be treated and to make a positive difference to our community and beyond. We strive to be peaceful problem-solvers with open minds and hearts, living God’s love and being kind.
We are a popular and oversubscribed school of 700 students. 2021-2022 will see our final year of expansion. Although situated in the Local Authority of Central Bedfordshire, we straddle the border and have half of our population from Bedford Borough schools. Students are largely drawn from the two villages of Cranfield and Wootton. There is an increasing number of ‘out-of-catchment’ students who are applying to the school because of its good reputation. As part of Central Bedfordshire’s ‘Schools for the Future’ development programme, we are currently exploring a long-term plan to evolve into an 11-16 secondary school.
