What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for an inspirational English teacher who can:

✔ Motivate and inspire learners of all abilities to develop a love for English.

✔ Deliver engaging and thought-provoking lessons that spark curiosity and discussion.

✔ Bring innovative teaching strategies to the classroom, making English accessible and exciting.

✔ Support learners in achieving outstanding progress, whether they dream of becoming the next J.K. Rowling or just need to conquer the dreaded analysis of an unseen poem.

✔ Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities.

✔ Accept that, at some point, you will have to act out parts of ‘A Christmas Carol’, possibly with dramatic flair.

So, if you’re ready to share your passion for English, inspire young minds, and shape the next generation of writers, poets, and critical thinkers, we would love to hear from you!

What the school offers its staff

  • A passionate and collaborative English faculty dedicated to academic excellence.
  • A well-structured Mastery curriculum, based on AQA specifications for GCSE and A-Level, ensuring learners engage with a wide range of classic and contemporary texts.
  • Engaged learners who love a good debate, whether it’s over the tragic fate of Romeo or the relevance of dystopian fiction today.
  • Excellent resources, including interactive smart TVs, a well-stocked library, and a strong digital learning platform.
  • A strong focus on CPD and career progression, supporting you to develop as a teacher and leader.
  • The opportunity to inspire learners beyond the classroom through extracurricular activities such as creative writing clubs, theatre trips, public speaking competitions, and school productions.

About the English Faculty

English is at the heart of our curriculum, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and confident communication.

  • KS3: Learners explore a broad and engaging curriculum, developing essential reading, writing, and spoken language skills. Expect classic literature, diverse modern texts, and lively discussions (often about whether ‘Of Mice and Men’ or ‘Animal Farm’ was the best class read).
  • GCSE: Following the AQA English Language and English Literature specifications, learners study a diverse range of fiction and non-fiction texts, including Shakespeare, 19th-century literature, modern drama, and poetry.
  • A-Level: Our AQA English Literature and English Language courses challenge learners to deepen their analytical skills, engage with complex texts, and refine their own writing styles—perfect for future journalists, novelists, or even teachers like you!
