Job description

Outwood Grange Academies Trust are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of English to join our strong and supportive English department.

At GCSE, we teach the EDUQAS specifications in English Language and English Literature and we have developed a focused curriculum from Year 7 to Year 11, which prepares students well for the rigors of their GCSE courses and beyond.

This is an opportunity to join our successful and supportive English Department, which is responsible for raising GCSE A*-C / 4 to 9 from 68% in 2014 to 86% in 2018. The department is committed to driving progress and attainment to improve the life chances of every student. We need an excellent teacher who is passionate about providing young people with the best possible education whatever their background or ability.

This post is a key appointment in terms of enhancing and ensuring positive life chances for our students through success and achievement in this key area.

Essential educational requirements

A degree in an appropriate discipline related to relevant subject.

Essential qualifications

Teaching qualification together with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Essential skills and experience

Recent and relevant teaching experience in employment or training.
Experience of assessment at Key Stage 3 and 4.

Able to use a range of teaching and learning strategies.
An understanding for how Assessment for Learning can improve student performance.
Confidence in the use of standard computer packages (word processing, email and spreadsheets) and how these can be used to enhance student learning.
Able to use student level data to raise standards.
Able to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
Creative in problem solving together with willingness to take on and try new approaches and ideas.
Ability to relate to students in a pleasant and sympathetic manner and to recognise potential child safeguarding issues.
Ability to communicate high expectations to all students.
Able to communicate both orally and in writing to students and their parents.
Sharing good practice across the department.
