Teacher of English job summary
We are now looking for a Teacher of English at Maiden Erlegh School
One of the privileges of joining our school is working with our incredibly talented English department. They are a vibrant and welcoming department with breadth and depth of experience across a large team of teachers. Led by the Assistant Headteacher (English) and the Heads of Foundation, KS4 and KS5 English, the department offers an ambitious and increasingly diverse curriculum designed to challenge and to inspire.
They also provide a number of extra-curricular activities for our students including competitions, book groups and creative writing club, as well as visits from the Young Shakespeare Company (‘Macbeth’, April 2022) and trips to see theatre productions (Reading Rep Theatre’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, May 2022 and Frantic Assembly’s ‘Othello’, November 2022).
The team enjoys mentoring trainees from Reading University every year and has a strong track record in supporting our Early Career Teachers. They also benefit from the specialised support of two experienced HLTAs, as well as administrative support. A Level English Language, English Literature and Film Studies are offered at KS5 with considerable uptake each year.
Another privilege of joining our school is working with our dynamic, ambitious, and positive students. They are a delight to work with and relationships between students and staff are extremely positive and constructive. Students are keen to learn, curious, respectful, polite, and fun. They rise to challenges positively and enthusiastically and have high expectations of themselves. This is why they achieve such impressive academic and personal successes.
