Teacher of English / Deputy Head of English Department job summary

We require an outstanding teacher (with a good sense of humour), to join the English Department at the Wyvern St Edmund’s Learning Campus from 19th April 2021 on a 0.8 FTE basis.

This is a Fixed Term position in order to provide maternity cover. We would also welcome applications from candidates who would like to consider the additional responsibility of Deputy Head of Department for English, particularly if you have previous experience of leading a Department.

The successful candidate will join an outward facing, passionate and supportive team in an innovative environment where two schools (one boys' and one girls') have co-located to share facilities and teachers to create a large mixed setting.

The English Department is an enthusiastic and forward thinking team that work closely together to share good practice, develop high quality lesson resources and explore innovative ideas. The shared vision of the English Department is that all students have the capability to achieve in English. We have high expectations of our students and deliver a challenging curriculum, in an engaging way.

Wyvern College and St. Edmund's Girls School have co-located to create one learning campus. Facilities and teachers are shared to create a large, mixed, setting of approximately 1300 students. Both schools are situated next door to each other in an outstanding location on the outskirts of Salisbury, with a beautiful backdrop of the Laverstock Downs and acres of playing fields. Both schools currently have a 'Good' OFSTED rating.

Departments are mostly located together and led by a single Head of Department, and one Senior Leadership Team work across the whole learning campus. Working together we can offer an even better education to both boys and girls, resulting in higher attainment and progress for all students.
