Teacher of English job summary
Teacher of English
This is an exciting opportunity to join a small community based school in North Leeds. Leeds Jewish Free School offers pupils not only an outstanding academic education but also many opportunities to enjoy a superb range of extra-curricular activities in a nurturing, aspirational setting. The school is a thriving and friendly community of approximately 125 pupils aged 11-16 and shares a campus with an Early Years setting, an established primary school and a youth community hub.
The English Department consists of two members of staff and has responsibility for the English Literature and Language curriculum and literacy policy. The Department has consistently achieved good results at GCSE and an unusually high degree of flexibility over course content. You will be teaching all year groups and many of the classes have less than 20 students per group.
This role is key to the delivery of English in school as the only full time member of the English Department. There is a high degree of autonomy and limited collaboration within school although we do have close links with other English Departments through the Red Kite Association group of schools. For this reason, this role will not suit an NQT but is a unique challenge for an English teacher looking for independence and variety; as in essence you will be leading the department.
Commitment to safeguarding
Leaders have developed an ambitious curriculum across the whole school. Most subjects including CAR are well established and most of the curriculum is well embedded. Some subjects do not currently match the quality of the strongest subject area. This means that development of pupils knowledge is stronger in some subject areas than others. Leaders should further develop the curriculums that is equally strong in all subject areas.
