Working at Longfield Academy: Our academy is transformational for young people and was judged as 'Good' with an 'Outstanding' Sixth Form Provision in May 2018 – a well-deserved accolade. Longfield Academy is a friendly and supportive working environment with innovation and collaboration at the heart of everything we do. The school is heavily oversubscribed in Year 7 and has a large and growing Sixth Form. Longfield Academy has a thorough and robust approach to school improvement and is well on course to becoming a truly outstanding school.

Being a part of Leigh Academies Trust: As of September 2019, our Trust is comprised of 25 geographically organised academies (11 secondaries, 13 primaries and 1 special) educating over 15,000 students, and employing over 2,500 talented staff. We also have three further academies in development phase, due to open between September 2020-2021. The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North West Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training providers and a large teaching school. As part of Leigh Academies Trust, you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust. This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together. The academy is committed to safeguarding children and successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check. Our commitment to safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in place across the Trust.

Teacher of English job summary

About the role: The English Department at Longfield Academy are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated and dedicated teacher to join their thriving, friendly and collaborative faculty from January 2020 (or Feb/April 2020 depending on the successful candidate’s availability).

We offer the unique opportunity here in that we’re receptive to consider teachers who have secondary teaching experience or a primary trained teacher specifically with Year 6 experience – we require our successful candidate to be fully aware of the challenges with the Key Stage 2 to 3 transition in literacy and this wider curriculum area. Our focus is on developing and pushing all our students to build on the progress they have made in primary school, and with the right appointment we can buck the trend and avoid the ‘literacy dip’.

We want to hear from dynamic individuals able to take the initiative as well as work as part of a well organised and collaborative team. The timetabling for this position will require our successful candidate to teach predominantly Key Stage 3 but this does not preclude the possibility of some KS4 and/or KS5 teaching depending on the experience and skills of the successful candidate.

Commitment to safeguarding

Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.

Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance.

Offers of employment may be subject to the following checks (where relevant):
childcare disqualification
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
medical
online and social media
prohibition from teaching
right to work
satisfactory references
suitability to work with children

You must tell us about any unspent conviction, cautions, reprimands or warnings under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975.
