Teacher of English (Maternity Cover)
Full Time Required for either Term 6 or September 2020

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and innovative colleague to join a team of committed professionals within our English Department to teach across all key stages for this maternity cover. This maternity cover is expected to end in May 2021. The post would be equally suitable for an experienced teacher or for an NQT. A passion for the subject and the desire to inspire others are essential. The ability to teach GCSE English Literature is essential with A level English Literature being desirable.

Maidstone Grammar School for Girls is a very successful selective girls’ school of 1250 students with a mixed Sixth Form of approximately 320. Since July 2019 we have been appointed by the Department for Education as a Computing Hub in recognition of the expertise the school has evidenced in Computing Education, and will take a lead in training teachers across the south east in the delivery of Computing. Essential skills and experience

Ability to teach English Literature effectively to KS3, KS4 and KS5
Strong teaching skills and excellent knowledge of the subject
Excellent ICT skills
Strong communication skills
Ability to identify and address underachievement in the subject, including of the most able
Ability to address the needs of individuals
Good organisational skills
Experience of teaching the subject at secondary school level (as a teacher or PGCE student)
Experience of teaching English Literature at A level
Willingness to take part in professional development
Some experience of teaching able students at secondary school level, either as a qualified or as a student teacher
