Teacher of English job summary
The Trustees of Newport Girls' High School Academy Trust are delighted to invite applications for the position of Teacher of English at this outstanding (2019) girls' school. NGHS places huge emphasis on Staff well-being and is a DFE Flexible Working Ambassador School. NGHS is still a small-medium sized school, but the school roll is growing rapidly and our new extension (dining room and STEM-subject classrooms) has just been opened.
Our ideal candidate will teach English and English Literature to KS3/KS4, where the vast majority of students attain Grades 6-9 at GCSE. ECTs are welcome to apply and will be well supported both within the faculty, but also with a Mentor who is part of the senior leadership team.
This post is a maternity cover starting on 1 September 2022 and lasting until January 2023.
The new post holder will be supported fully by an experienced and high-profile SLT as well benefitting from being part of a fantastic team of colleagues, both teaching and non-teaching. The ability to relate well to our students is essential. Our students are very well behaved but can put pressure on themselves to achieve and they can also have lots of questions for their teachers! Working at NGHS is academically demanding and stimulating but staff can normally teach without any disciplinary interruption.
If you have any questions about the post, please contact the Headteacher, Michael Scott via headteacher@nghs.org.uk. A virtual tour of the school (excluding the new build) is available on our website and a discussion via Teams with Mr Scott is possible prior to application.
Please apply by the closing date of Wednesday 18 May at 10am. Interviews will take place before half term.
NGHS is committed to Safer Recruitment Practice. A copy of our policy is available for download. An enhanced DBS certificate will be required prior to the commencement of employment. References from your current Headteacher will be verified and police checks required from any countries in which you have lived/worked previously. The School is also committed to equal opportunities and welcomes applications irrespective of protected characteristics such as age, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, pregnancy etc. NGHS has an ever-increasingly diverse student population with circa 20-25% non white-British student population in the lower years.
Commitment to safeguarding
The school priorities the well-being, safety and safeguarding of all pupils and staff. More information can be found on our website (Safeguarding & Child Protection policy). We also comply with all aspects of Keeping Children Safe in Education and this includes carrying out Police checks for those who have lived abroad as well as online searches for appointed candidates.
