Job summary

We are looking for an outstanding English Teacher with QTS to join our fantastic team at Presfield High School.

As an English Teacher, you will take a creative approach to teaching pupils according to their educational needs, ensuring delivery of the school curriculum in a way that maximises children’s achievement and ability to develop. When it comes to looking after our students, we never settle for second best.

We are looking for an English Teacher, capable of teaching KS3, KS4 and KS5 through a variety of qualifications including Entry Level to GCSE, who shares our vision of changing lives and shaping futures by empowering vulnerable young people, to be happy and valued by society.

The school has invested in a new immersive studio and we are keen to develop our Creative/Performing Arts curriculum. We believe passionately that the Creative/Performing Arts is not only a way for our students to express themselves and develop their social communication skills, but also an exciting career pathway for them.

Your work will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure and you will be working in a school where we maintain a strong safeguarding culture, where pupils are listened to, respected and involved in as many decisions as possible.

Whilst previous experience of working in an SEN environment would be desirable, excellent teaching skills and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are just as important.

We welcome applications of all ranges of experience including NQT.

About Presfield High School and Specialist College

Presfield High School is an oversubscribed specialist provision which caters for students with a primary diagnosis of Autism from age 11 through to 19. All our 110 students have an EHCP which identifies Autism as their primary need. We are advocates of Dr Stephen Shore’s belief that “If you have met one child with autism you have met ONE child with autism”. This underpins all that we do and we are committed to challenging the stereotypical views that are often associated with Autism.

We passionately believe in empowering our students and their families to advocate for their individual needs to support them to make meaningful contributions to society and to gain employment if that is their chosen destination. This is demonstrated in our diverse curriculum that promotes an aspirational academic and social pathway.

We are committed to promoting the safeguarding and welfare of children and Young People and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

All successful applicants will be requested to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Due to the nature of the work involved, this post is "exempt" from the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
