Teacher of English job summary
This is a rare chance to join a caring team of highly reflective practitioners in one of the highest achieving schools in Bristol: achievement and attainment in English is outstanding. We follow the AQA GCSE specification for English Language and English Literature. At Post 16, we follow the AQA specifications for English Language, English Language and Literature and OCR for English Literature.
Our vision is that at RGS, English students will broaden their horizons by meeting new people and new cultures through texts from a range of times and places. They will understand and appreciate the value of our English literary heritage, using this knowledge to make sense of the present day. They will read widely including a range of fiction and non- fiction texts and will be curious about language and vocabulary. They will use language effectively themselves, becoming highly articulate individuals, with the vocabulary and rhetoric to be able to express independently formed opinions, as well as challenge others where necessary. Above all they will develop empathy which will allow them to become open minded individuals who embrace and enjoy the wider world around them.
The English department continuously collaborates to improve and diversify the English curriculum at RGS. This is a fabulous opportunity to be part of a collegiate team who always strives for excellence and to contribute to the above vision.
Central to the learning in this curriculum area, across all Key Stages, are effective teachers who are willing to reflect on and improve not only their subject knowledge but also their pedagogy in line with developments in English teaching research. We are all passionate about our subject and about making a difference in all young people’s lives and do not hesitate to take risks and try new ideas out. We challenge ourselves and each other within a compassionate and caring department culture- as such English teachers enjoy a high level of autonomy within a well-resourced and supportive environment.

About Redland Green School
Redland Green School is a special place, with a community culture, in which everyone belongs. With our values of RESPECT, AMBITION and RESPONSIBILITY at the centre of all we do, we are immensely proud of the atmosphere of care and kindness felt in classrooms and corridors, offices and social spaces.
Whilst academic excellence is always a focus, it is our dedication to whole-person development that makes our school unique. We promote and prioritise staff learning just as much as student learning; believing that teachers and support staff, engaged in their own development, make the very best role models and create exciting classrooms for our students. We do not believe in a one-size fits all approach to education and so welcome teachers with a love of their subject, who are keen to learn more about their craft and plan effective and exciting lessons.
As such we offer an excellent CPD programme. This has been designed to sustain a professional and vibrant learning community, where every member of staff sees themselves as a learner and contributes to the continued development of the school. With this in mind, we are looking for staff with the creative energy and commitment to make the most of the opportunities available, fostering the very best climate for learning, for all our young people.
If appointed at RGS, you will be welcomed into a community that cares for you, challenges and champions your development, with a commitment to your career in education, that will be happy and successful.
Please read the details of the post and department below. If you feel you are aligned with our school values and are interested in the opportunity to work in our English department, please complete the application form. All successful applicants will be invited to interview at RGS, to see if we can work together.
All tasks and the theme of interview questions you can expect, will be shared in advance, as part of our commitment to equal opportunities and diverse thinkers. However, we urge you not to over prepare answers, as we want to get to know the real you.
