Teacher of English job summary

We are looking for a passionate, dedicated, and motivated Teacher of English who is willing to 'Bring out the Best’ in our students.  This position is to join our English Faculty at Thomas Knyvett College where you will be fully supported within the faculty and by the Senior Leadership Team.

This role is for a September 2019 start or sooner if available.

Our outstanding staff and wonderful students make us a great place to work. Thomas Knyvett College, part of The Howard Partnership Trust (THPT), sets high standards for behaviour, promoting traditional values that will be important for life-long achievement. We believe that academic attainment flourishes in this atmosphere, enabling students to develop into confident and well-rounded young adults.

THPT provides a wealth of opportunities and career progression opportunities, where you will be supported and developed through our extensive CPD programme. We also believe that providing effective PPA allocation is important to allow for a better work/life balance. Regardless of your experience or level of responsibility you will have a range of exciting opportunities to ensure you are always improving your craft.

Thomas Knyvett College is one of the most improved comprehensive schools in the country and in the county of Surrey having achieved 56% of Year 11 students gaining A*- C grades including English and Maths in summer 2016 and 20% achieving A*- A English/mathematics.  The progress for students was outstanding and is exceptional.  Judged, for the third time, by Ofsted in December 2013 as providing ‘good’ teaching and learning, we are justly proud of The Howard brand.  Our high quality, professional staff are dedicated to ‘bringing out the best’ in all our students through a personalised approach, enabling them to achieve more than they ever thought they could.

What Ofsted said:

“Students arrive at the college with attainment that is much lower than average. By the time they leave, their examination results are above average. This reflects the rapid progress they make in all year groups.”  Ofsted 2013

THPT value their staff very highly, as reflected in the excellent retention rates across the Trust. THPT also operate an extensive Rewards and Benefits Scheme that includes Loyalty & Service Awards, consideration of relocation packages, travel allowances and grants, access to discount schemes, and much more.

We welcome applications from both well qualified teachers and those who are at the beginning of their career. We offer an excellent NQT programme along with an ‘NQT Welcome Bonus’ (£2000 conditions apply). We are also part of the DfE’s ‘Return to Teaching’ programme for more experienced teachers looking to return to the classroom.

We are looking for staff to join our team who are passionate about improving students’ life chances and capable of contributing to a highly effective and supportive English teaching team and our extensive enrichment programme.
