PolyMAT is a small and ambitious MAT with a unique family feel that is seeking a Teacher of English to cover maternity leave until 31/08/2025. Our vision is ‘Success for Everyone’ and the successful candidate will help deliver this for our schools. We currently have three schools in our Trust: Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys, a long-successful boys’ school, Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls that opened in 2019, and Bannockburn Primary School, a large successful primary that joined the Trust on 1st November 2023. We also have our flourishing Sixth Form provision which is co-educational. Our Trust and our schools pride themselves on a culture of high standards delivered through our Values of Care and Unity. Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys wish to employ a colleague with excellent subject knowledge who is passionate about sharing their love of English within our diverse school community.

English is a very popular and high achieving subject in our school at all key stages and we have a team of 17 teachers. At GCSE, we teach the AQA GCSE specification in both English language and English literature. We work closely with our colleagues at our Girls' school and are currently exploring a range of exciting developments in our curriculum at KS3 as we ensure that it prepares our boys for academic success while also preparing them for life in one of the most exciting cities in the world.

Our co-educational sixth form is rated Outstanding. The English team is at the heart of this success, offering 3 subjects at A level: AQA English Language, Educas Film Studies and Edexcel English Literature. We are highly aspirant for our A level students and many progress to the top Russell Group Universities (including Oxbridge) to study English literature and related subjects such as Law.

We are looking for a Teacher who has:

  • QTS and experience of teaching English Language and Literature to Key Stage 3 and GCSE level
  • a sound understanding of lesson planning for all abilities and Key Stages
  • excellent organisational and time management skills
  • excellent communication skills and an ability to work in partnership with colleagues and parents to ensure the safeguarding and academic progress of students
  • the desire and drive to engage with our professional development programme
