Teacher of English with Humanities and IT job summary
About This Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of English with Key Stage 3 Humanities and IT to join our dynamic faculty. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, ensuring learners develop a love for reading, writing and analytical thinking. From guiding Year 7 through their first taste of Dickens to helping Year 11 craft the perfect response to unseen poetry, your impact will be lasting and profound.
This role is predominantly focused on English; however, the successful candidate will also have the ability to contribute to the wider curriculum, including teaching Key Stage 3 Humanities and/or IT where required. Our school values teachers who can deliver across subjects, particularly at Key Stage 3, supporting a broad and flexible curriculum.
About the English Faculty
English is at the heart of our curriculum, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and confident communication.
KS3: Learners explore a broad and engaging curriculum, developing essential reading, writing, and spoken language skills. Expect classic literature, diverse modern texts, and lively discussions (often about whether ‘Of Mice and Men’ or ‘Animal Farm’ was the best class read).
GCSE: Following the AQA English Language and English Literature specifications, learners study a diverse range of fiction and non-fiction texts, including Shakespeare, 19th-century literature, modern drama, and poetry.
A-Level: Our AQA English Literature and English Language courses challenge learners to deepen their analytical skills, engage with complex texts, and refine their own writing styles—perfect for future journalists, novelists, or even teachers like you!
About the Humanities Faculty
Humanities is at the heart of our curriculum, helping learners to understand the world around them, their place within it, and how the past has shaped the present. Through Humanities, we foster curiosity, critical thinking, and a strong sense of global awareness.
KS3: Learners explore a broad and engaging curriculum across History and Geography, developing essential enquiry, analytical, and discussion skills. In History, students investigate key events, people, and turning points that have shaped Britain and the wider world, building an understanding of change over time and its relevance today. In Geography, learners explore both physical and human processes—from natural hazards and ecosystems to globalisation and climate change—encouraging curiosity about the world and its people .
GCSE: We offer OCR GCSE History, OCR GCSE Geography and AQA GCSE Sociology. Learners deepen their subject knowledge while developing strong analytical and evaluative skills. In History, students explore significant periods, themes, and interpretations. In Geography, they study a range of physical and human topics, including environmental challenges and global development. In Sociology, learners examine society, culture, and key social issues, gaining insight into the world around them and the structures within it.
A-Level: Our AQA A-Level History course challenges learners to think critically, engage with complex historical interpretations, and construct well-evidenced arguments. Students refine their analytical writing and develop independence as scholars—ideal preparation for careers in fields such as law, politics, journalism, education, and beyond.
What Can You Offer Us?
We are looking for an inspirational English teacher who can also contribute across Humanities and IT, and who will:
✔ Motivate and inspire learners of all abilities to develop a love for English, while fostering curiosity about the world through Humanities subjects.
✔ Deliver engaging and thought-provoking lessons across English, History, Geography (and potentially Sociology), using a range of teaching strategies to spark curiosity and discussion.
✔ Bring innovative teaching strategies to the classroom, including the effective use of technology, making learning accessible, relevant, and exciting.
✔ Support learners in achieving outstanding progress across subjects, whether they dream of becoming the next J.K. Rowling, a future historian, or simply want to understand the world around them more deeply.
✔ Demonstrate strong subject knowledge and the ability to teach across disciplines, helping students make connections between literature, society, history, and global issues.
✔ Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the curriculum, share best practice, and contribute to a rich programme of extra-curricular opportunities.
✔ Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment where all learners can thrive and feel confident to contribute.
What Can We Offer You?
A passionate and collaborative English faculty dedicated to academic excellence.
A well-structured Mastery curriculum, based on AQA specifications for GCSE and A-Level, ensuring learners engage with a wide range of classic and contemporary texts.
Engaged learners who love a good debate, whether it’s over the tragic fate of Romeo or the relevance of dystopian fiction today.
Excellent resources, including interactive smart TVs, a well-stocked library, and a strong digital learning platform.
A strong focus on CPD and career progression, supporting you to develop as a teacher and leader.
The opportunity to inspire learners beyond the classroom through extracurricular activities such as creative writing clubs, theatre trips, public speaking competitions, and school productions.
So, if you’re ready to share your passion for English, contribute to a dynamic Humanities faculty, embrace the use of technology in learning, and inspire young minds, we would love to hear from you!
