Salford City Academy has an exciting opportunity to appoint a teacher of Cooking and Nutrition. We wish to appoint a dynamic and inspirational teacher of cooking to work within our busy design technology department across key stages 3 & 4 developing the food curriculum. The Technology Department is dynamic and successful, enjoying state of the art facilities and technology. Hospitality and catering is one of the most popular courses chosen at GCSE. A full-time technician is provided to support the placing or orders preparation of ingredients. This post would be suitable for both experienced teachers and ECTs. Our successful candidate will be dedicated in the delivery of high-quality teaching with the aim of helping students develop a broad base of skills through practical, investigational, and theoretical work, across all levels and abilities. Our appointed candidate must be able to demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and communicate this in an enthusiastic and imaginative way in both practical and theory lessons.

Why choose us?

Salford City Academy is highly ambitious and successful 11- 16 academy which is part of the United Learning Multi- academy Trust. In February 2022 Ofsted judged the academy to continue to be a good school citing ‘Pupils at Salford City Academy said that they enjoy coming to school to learn. They feel happy and safe at school.’ Leaders have high expectations of pupils’ behaviour. Pupils behave well in lessons and around the school. They are polite, courteous and well-mannered. Leaders do not tolerate any derogatory behaviour. Pupils respect each other’s differences.’

Academic results at the academy have improved year on year and we were delighted to celebrate the schools ‘best’ results this summer achieving a progress 8 of +0.31, placing us in the top 24% of schools in the country and top of all northern United Learning schools. The academy enjoys state of the art facilities and has a committed, high quality teaching team which is focussed on engaging and motivating all students. The academy is now oversubscribed, and we are looking to for opportunities to recruit excellent candidates into our fantastic team.

Our vision is to provide an excellent education for all our students, which brings out the best in all of them and prepares them for success in life. The academy is an exciting place to be, and it is an excellent time to join us.

We are proud members of the Salford community, constantly striving to be the best and bringing out the best in everyone. Tolerance, mutual respect, honesty, and co-operation are fostered in line with the Academy REACT values across the curriculum. Responsibility, Excellence, Aspiration, Commitment and Teamwork are at the heart of our Culture of Excellence.

We feel passionately about supporting students to overcome any barriers to learning and promoting diversity and tolerance across the academy. We have an extensive personal development programme ‘Aspire’ which incorporates all aspects of student’s wider development. ‘Pupils make a valuable contribution to the life of the school. This is particularly evident in the work of the prefects. Pupils spoke highly of the rewards programme. Disadvantaged pupils, and those pupils with SEND, engage fully in all aspects of school life.’ Ofsted 2022.

What do we offer:

Salford City Academy is committed to professional development; all teaching staff are expected to actively participate in a programme of continuing professional development (CPD). We work collaboratively, share good practice, and have a Trust-wide approach to development. We need to make sure that we have the right people in the right place, doing the job that is needed to build excellent provision for our children and young people. Staff are supported professionally to ensure they can do that and are valued and recognised for their work. We are passionate about teaching and learning and there are numerous opportunities to collaborate across the curriculum and develop pedagogy for the benefit of students. This investment in teaching and learning and professional development is supported by the United Learning Salford Cluster and also at a wider whole trust level. Such a commitment is reflected in the number of staff participating in leadership programmes over recent years, and more importantly the number now in leadership positions with the academy, cluster and trust.

United Learning schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resources, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance. Our approaches within the academy support this so that our focus can be on planning and delivering high quality teaching and learning. For example, all behaviour and detentions are managed centrally by the Inclusion Team. This allows teachers the time and capacity to deliver high quality lessons and supports their workload and well-being

Staff will form a dynamic team who are supportive, friendly, and dedicated to instilling the qualities of Responsibility, Excellence, Aspiration, Commitment and Teamwork in the next generation of children, preparing them for successful, fulfilling and enjoyable adult lives.

We also offer a wide range of other employee benefits to all of our staff in return for their commitment to our schools, and to help contribute towards improving their overall well-being.
