Teacher of Food Technology job summary

Brookhaven School is a new-build specialist secondary school that opened in 2024, providing education for students aged 11–16 with autism. We offer small class sizes and a calm, structured learning environment, with specialist facilities including Food Technology, Art, Computing and Science.

The school delivers two pathways:

  • A Vocational Pathway with an academic focus, supporting students to achieve recognised qualifications including GCSEs
  • An Independence Pathway, with a greater emphasis on functional skills, entry-level certificates and general life skills to support preparation for adulthood

We are seeking a practical and motivated Food Technology teacher to deliver engaging, accessible food and nutrition lessons to secondary-aged students. The role focuses on developing practical life skills, independence and vocational readiness, alongside accredited and non-accredited pathways, while maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver practical Food Technology lessons at KS3 and KS4
  • Deliver Food Preparation & Nutrition (GCSE and/or vocational alternatives where appropriate)
  • Ensure consistently high standards of hygiene, health and safety within the food room
  • Manage food orders, stock and resources effectively within an agreed budget
  • Adapt teaching to meet a wide range of SEND needs
  • Maintain a safe, organised and well-managed learning environment
  • Support assessment, accreditation and evidence gathering
  • Work collaboratively with support staff to ensure high-quality provision
  • Contribute to curriculum development within a growing department
