We seek a well qualified and enthusiastic teacher with a commitment to students of all abilities in a comprehensive secondary school. A willingness to contribute within a team approach to develop the work of the department is essential. The willingness to take part in foreign trips would be an advantage.

This would be an ideal opportunity for someone looking to start their career in a supportive and developmental environment.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach French and Spanish, ideally, across the full age and ability range.

This is a permanent post subject to successful completion of a six months probationary period.

This post is full time but we will consider part time (0.8).

The Park Community School is a mixed, mainstream, non-denominational secondary school in Barnstaple, Devon. It caters for students aged 11 to 16 and has approximately 1440 students enrolled.

The Park Community School was founded in 1910 and was first known as Barnstaple Grammar School. The school took its current name in 1973 when it became a comprehensive. Since then, the school has grown and has an enviable reputation within the local community. A new headteacher was appointed in September 2015 and with the new leadership came a renewed focus on staff development and Teaching and Learning. The school is oversubscribed for the rising year 7, this is a true reflection of the recent developments and school journey.

The school is organised around a traditional House system, comprising of 5 houses, each with two tutor groups per year. The house system promotes strong pastoral care balanced with a healthy level of competition.

The Park Community School’s main aim is to be the best educational facility in Devon and to earn itself a national reputation of excellence. To do this, the secondary school strives to ensure that every child discovers their passion for learning and understands that they can achieve their potential. The school aims to be a challenging, stimulating and supportive environment that allows each student to become a confident, resilient and adaptable learner.

The school provides a broad and balanced curriculum that emphasises the importance of literacy, numeracy and ICT. Students are taught how to work well in a team, as well as the importance of self-reliance and citizenship.
