Wood Green Academy is a large 11-19 multicultural comprehensive school set in Wednesbury in the heart of the Black Country. The academy is located about 15km from the centre of Birmingham and has excellent national links by having the M5 and M6 nearby. It is an innovative, creative and forward thinking school held in high regard locally and nationally. The Academy has a long standing reputation for achieving some of the best GCSE and Post 16 results in the local area, and in February 2020, under the new Ofsted framework, achieved an overall effectiveness rating of good, but is only one of the few secondary schools nationally that achieved the grade of outstanding for behaviour and attitudes, something we are extremely proud of.
Although a large and diverse school, staff are professional, highly dedicated and friendly. We are fully staffed in all areas with subject specialists. We continually invest in staff development through weekly dedicated Continuing Professional Development (CPD) time, and by offering professional development opportunities and career development. We are also a National Support School and are heavily involved with Initial Teacher Training working with local universities through post graduate courses, Schools Direct and Teach First.
Our students are enthusiastic, well behaved and keen to learn. They are welcoming, positive and proud of their Academy. They have a good working relationship with staff, which is built on mutual trust and respect. They contribute heavily to the day to day life of the Academy.
The Academy, although always striving to excel and attain the very best in terms of achievement, also strongly believes in the importance of developing the whole child. We seek to give students the very best of opportunities from which they can develop their self-confidence, social skills and awareness of the world in which they are valuable citizens. We believe that ‘Success Breeds Success’. Life outside of the classroom is very varied.
