What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking to appoint a colleague with the talent and ambition to become an outstanding teacher. The successful candidate will benefit from joining a successful Geography department that delivers an excellent education with a track record of supporting colleagues in the early years of their career.

What the school offers its staff

We believe that Archbishop Holgate’s is ‘no ordinary school’ and is an excellent place to work, a view confirmed by Ofsted in our recent inspection, “Staff are incredibly proud to work here.”

Our staff are friendly and supportive and our students are polite, hardworking and keen to succeed. As such this post represents an exciting opportunity to join a very successful, high-achieving, forward looking and fully-subscribed Church of England comprehensive, a school judged Outstanding in all areas by both Ofsted and SIAMS.

Successful candidates will be fully supported to develop in the role, benefiting from bespoke CPD opportunities both at Archbishop’s and as part of the Pathfinder Teaching School Hub. In addition, colleagues will benefit from being part of the Pathfinder Trust Career Pathway and through working with colleagues across other Trust schools to develop skills and share innovative teaching and learning experiences.

Further details about the role

Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed teacher to work as part of our successful and growing Geography department. You will be expected to teach across all Key Stages, with a particular focus on KS3 and KS4. Experience at KS5 would also be beneficial. Our current exam board for GCSE and A Level is AQA. You will need to contribute to the continuing growth of the department, both through developing schemes of work, cross curricular links and through developing opportunities to engage with the subject outside the classroom. You will need to have the ability to plan and support field trips and other extra-curricular activities as required and play an active role as a supportive Form Tutor.

This role would also suit an outstanding ECT or Geography teacher in the early stages of their career looking for a new and exciting role with excellent opportunities for career development.

Requirements

As in all posts at Archbishop Holgate's School, we are looking for:

• an excellent classroom practitioner

• first class student management and high expectations of students in terms of both work and behaviour

• outstanding subject expertise

• commitment to the continuous improvement of teaching and learning

• effective ICT skills

• positive relationships based on firmness and fairness

• the ability to deal effectively with the paperwork and administration that supports teaching and learning, including lesson preparation and organisation, marking and assessment.

We will also be looking for a candidate who uses their initiative and drive to incorporate innovative and creative teaching styles into their practice. They must value the unique strengths of each student as an individual and maximise student learning and achievement at all Key Stages. They will need to demonstrate the ability to develop positive classroom relationships and classroom management. We are looking for a candidate who can display strong inter-personal skills, someone who is able to support the department effectively by continually raising aspirations of pupils across all abilities, someone who will work with the team to continue to develop resources and exciting schemes of work. It is essential they must show full commitment to the aims, values, policies and procedures of the school, including continuing professional development, and commitment to high standards and continuous review and development.

The successful candidate will also be expected to support the values and ethos of a Christian foundation. We are fully committed to the Christian nature of the school and as a Form Tutor you would be expected to contribute to “Thought for the Day” and other acts of collective worship. To offer a real quality of education and range of opportunities, we will therefore be looking to appoint a colleague who will make a full contribution to whole-school as well as to subject matters. Clubs, trips and events – including charity fundraising, volunteering, the annual Carol Service in York Minster, Enrichment days, extra-curricular opportunities, productions, curriculum visits and social trips – form an important part of school life. So do out of hours learning, booster classes, revision classes, and a full range of intervention and support.

Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.

Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance.
