Teacher of German/French job summary

Teacher of MFL (German and/or French)
Part-time or Full
Required for September 2022
MPS/UPS + London Fringe Allowance

The MFL department is home to a lively, innovative and mutually supportive team, which offers French and German to A-Level. The successful applicant would ideally teach German or French to A-Level, with the ability to teach the second language to GCSE. It is a well-resourced department with a strong emphasis on staff development and the appointed candidate can expect to gain significant enjoyment and professional fulfilment from working here. We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified graduate with the ability to contribute to this committed team. There is a strong extra-curricular emphasis with a full programme of exchanges and visits with our partner schools in Germany and France, links with other schools in Thuringia, Sixth Form study trips to Berlin and Paris, as well as links with the University of Cambridge, the Goethe-Institut and the Institut Français. Additionally, Latin is delivered to GCSE. Progress in GCSE languages was excellent in 2018 and 2019, compared with boys nationally.

Sponsorship for overseas applicants is available.

We were graded Outstanding in every category by Ofsted in March 2017.

Educating approximately 1200 students, The Bishop’s Stortford High School provides a single-sex education for boys in Years 7 to 11 and has a large, thriving co-educational sixth form, with over one hundred girls on roll. We have achieved a positive Progress 8 score every year since the measure was introduced, which compares very favourably to a national average for boys of -0.28. At A-Level, we had a 55% A* - B pass rate in 2019, 61% in 2020 and 66% in 2021. We have a strong ethos, based on high expectations and standards for all, a committed and supportive staff who deliver high quality, engaging lessons and well-behaved students with excellent attitudes to learning.

We are due to re-locate to a brand new ‘state of the art’ school on a new site less than half a mile from our current location, in 2023. This exciting project will provide us with a fantastic new learning environment, supported by cutting edge technology, and huge opportunities for the future.

The school provides a supportive environment in which both newly qualified and experienced teachers have excellent opportunities to develop their careers. A formidable range of extra-curricular activities are available to students which include numerous overseas trips, languages exchanges, cultural visits, first class fixture cards in all major sports, a diverse and high quality music and drama programme, DofE, Model UN conference, Young Enterprise, debating, public speaking and much more. The school places a strong emphasis on staff development and the appointed candidate can expect to gain significant enjoyment and professional fulfilment from working here.
