Teacher of Girls PE job summary

Shoreham Academy is looking to appoint a teacher of girls PE to join our large team of highly skilled and enthusiastic professionals. The role is maternity cover with the option to discuss a permanent contract for the right candidate. We welcome applications from experienced teachers as well as ECTs. Specialisms in Gymnastics/Trampolining and Netball are desirable.

Our Physical Education and Dance department, comprising of 14 teachers, has a reputation for excellence and has been rated outstanding following a long chain of highly successful departmental reviews. We offer a competitive United Learning salary that is higher than WSCC maintained schools.

Physical Education and Dance form an integral part of the curriculum across all key stages at Shoreham Academy. The faculty offers a wide range of courses including GCSE PE (AQA), A-Level PE (AQA), GCSE Dance (AQA), A-Level Dance (AQA), BTEC TECH Award in Sport L1/2, BTEC Sport L3, BTEC Sport and Exercise Science L3, BTEC Dance L3, BTEC Uniformed Protective Services L3, a range of leadership qualifications and FA Level 1 Football Coaching. The PE and Dance faculty also offer 3 high performance academies in the 6th form (Shoreham Soccer Academy powered by RMF, 3Fall Youth Dance Academy in conjunction with Chichester University and our Gymnastics Academy).

Physical Education at Shoreham Academy enjoys a high profile, with very good levels of participation by students. Extra-curricular PE and Dance clubs are well attended. We are part of the West Sussex South District Sports partnership. The partnership provides us with an extensive fixture schedule at district level. Many of our sports teams consistently win district competitions and reach the latter stages of County and National competitions. Our extra-curricular success is celebrated each year at our showcase event, the Shoreham Academy PE and Dance Celebration Evening.

Sports facilities at Shoreham Academy are state of the art. The faculty boasts a 4th generation Astroturf pitch, 2 large multiuse games areas, 2 large field areas, a dance studio, a fitness suite, a 4 badminton court sports hall with a 400 seat spectator viewing area, a 3 lane outdoor cricket net and a 3 badminton court sports hall.

About You

The successful applicant will be an excellent and passionate teacher of PE. You will need to be able to work as a team member to support the PE department and show initiative and independence. We are looking for a teacher with a strong commitment to extracurricular sport who will fully immerse themselves in our extensive extracurricular program.

The successful applicant may be an ECT or an experienced teacher but must be an excellent practitioner both in the classroom and in a range of sporting environments. Specialisms in Gymnastics/Trampolining and Netball are desirable.

All new employees will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check with Barred List information prior to working in school. Two satisfactory references are required from all successful applicants, one of which must be the current or most recent employer. Prohibition order checks are undertaken for all newly appointed teachers and support staff who will be engaged in ‘teaching work’. All new employees will be required to complete a medical questionnaire.

United Learning reserve the right to request further checks for individuals that have ever lived or worked outside the UK. It is an individual’s obligation to meet these requirements by requesting a Certificate of Good Conduct from that country, or those countries, of residence and (for teachers) a Letter of Professional Standing from the professional regulating authority in the country or those countries in which they worked.

All new employees will be required to read and sign the annual Staff Student Relationship letter upon joining the Academy.

All new employees are required to complete three online safeguarding modules prior to starting work.

Evidence of an individual’s right to work in the UK will be checked at interview. Verification of any mandatory professional qualifications and professional status; relevant certificates or a letter of confirmation from the awarding institution must be provided at interview.
