Teacher of Girls' PE job summary
We are seeking an outstanding Teacher of Girls’ PE to work within our high performing Academy. The PE team offers outstanding provision to our students aged 11 to 19 with engaging lessons and a significant extra-curricular PE offer. The ability to offer a second subject would be advantageous.
In the first instance, this is a fixed term role for twelve months.
The physical education team is a creative and dynamic department with inspiring teachers. All are subject specialists. High expectations are set within the department for both students and teachers alike. We strive to ensure that we deliver an imaginative, up to date and relevant curriculum. Consequently the department has an outstanding track record for academic success at all key stages.
The PE department at Harris City Academy Crystal Palace enjoyed some outstanding results in 2019. In Physical Education and other areas linked to the Department we attempt to complement and contribute to the general aims of the school. It is the intention that all pupils regardless of their ability should be given the opportunity to experience a wide range of physical activities thus contributing to the overall experience and package that the Academy has to offer.
Professional development of staff is promoted and supported. Performance Appraisal objectives are set and training opportunities identified, and all staff are involved in the Academy Improvement Planning and review process. The department benefits from the very latest teaching and learning strategies and innovations for literacy as well as ensuring that all teachers are expert practitioners in their field.
Teaching is differentiated and personalised to meet the individual needs of all students. Lessons are planned to enhance students’ speaking and listening, reading and writing skills. Students, particularly in the Sixth Form are encouraged to do their own wider reading using both the magazine subscriptions available in the library but also carefully selected online content. Homework is integral to students’ success and books are marked to provide feedback to students and inform future planning.
All students are encouraged to seek help and advice on all aspects of sport and to utilise the extensive facilities including the sports centre and fitness suite. The Academy has an established tradition of excellent academic performance and is renowned locally for its sporting ethos and success. The academy is particularly successful football, rugby, basketball and athletics and we compete at national level each year in all these sports.
At KS5 the Academy runs a highly successful sports Academies in football, girls’ and boys’ rugby, athletics and basketball.
