What skills and experience we're looking for

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach exceptional lessons that engage, inspire and challenge all students.
  • Create a supportive and stimulating learning environment in the classroom that helps all students to make excellent progress and develop as learners and individuals.
  • Make a significant contribution to the values and ethos of the school and promote and uphold all school policies.

What the school offers its staff

We are committed to providing our staff with the highest quality support and challenge to ensure that they have the opportunities to excel and give our students the education they deserve.

As members of staff in an ambitious school that aims to enrich the experiences of our young people, enable them to make extraordinary progress and be able to access the best opportunities for their future lives, we must be role models for continuous learning and development.

We provide:

• Training and development for all staff across the wide range of roles that we have in school – both in and outside the school.

• Clarity around career structure and expectations that can be met to demonstrate successful progress, according to career stage.

• A supportive Professional Development system that sets realistic objectives and encourages individual growth, team success and the promotion of the Wrenn ethos through a coaching approach.

• Quality Assurance that focusses on formative, developmental feedback, rather than summative judgements.

• Opportunity to reflect on career aims and feedback into further school improvement through career stage interviews.

• The opportunity to work with colleagues on improvement projects through action research, development projects, enhancing subject knowledge, co-observation and utilising external support – colleagues engaged in collaborative development so that improvement is continuous.

We have an open-door policy for senior leadership and encourage feedback from all our staff in significant areas of school improvement.

We also provide an Insights programme that allows staff at any stage in their career to gain an insight into what the next step in their career progression might look like and the training around this.

Commitment to safeguarding

We have a strong Safeguarding team at the academy and a strong culture for Safeguarding in the school. Safeguarding is fully compliant, and the wellbeing of students is a real strength of the academy. The school has been awarded Northamptonshire School of the Year for a second time in 2021 for the exceptional care and guidance provided to the students during the last year. We invest in students’ cultural capital through a very strong personal and community enrichment programme. We have strong links to our community and work closely with local partners and providers to maximise opportunities for all students.

Steeped in History, Wrenn school has been providing high quality education to the young people and families of Wellingborough for over 100 Years.

Our Upper School’s origins at London Road lie in Wellingborough County High School for Girls which was established in 1907. Our Lower School site at Doddington Road which was established in 1930, was once the Wellingborough Grammar School for boys. In 1975, under the then headmaster, Mr Harry Wrenn, the two schools merged to form Wrenn School and in 2025 we look forward to celebrating 50 years as Wrenn School.

Wrenn School is a split site school, the lower and upper school site, KS3 (Aged 11-14) are entirely based on our Doddington Road site with KS4 & 5 (14-19) predominantly based at London Road. The Educational environment is full of historical character and the school has retained many of its original features. The school has beautiful grounds, excellent Art, Music, Drama and Design Technology purpose-built facilities. The Wrenn Astro, playing fields, hard play areas and Gyms providing excellent facilities for the multitude of sports which are played across the school.

“Pupils benefit from a plethora of opportunities and clubs which extend beyond the curriculum’ Ofsted, December 2023

At Wrenn school ‘we set no limits and accept no excuses’ and we aim for excellence in all that we do. We invest heavily in the development of our pupils’ and find ways to nurture them both academically and personally. During their time at Wrenn our students thrive, we are proud of the outcomes that they achieve, and we believe that all students can make outstanding progress and experience individual success. Our Sixth form students, student leadership teams and student mentors play an active role within the school, providing a support to peers and the wider community.

“Sixth Formers play a full part in the life of the school’ and ‘The school has successfully created a vibrant, inclusive culture where pupils succeed’ Ofsted, December 2023
