Teacher of History job summary
Icknield High School is a highly successful multi-cultural 11-16 Academy, situated on the northern side of town. We are justifiably proud of our excellent reputation and believe that we offer both students and staff a caring environment in which they can succeed.
We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, ambitious and motivated History Teacher to join our team. In addition to teaching high quality lessons across KS3 and KS4, there will be a specific responsibility for overseeing strategies to support achievement of Pupil Premium students within History.
Our well-developed History curriculum is based around the question of ‘Who are we?’, considering key events in global history which have had an impact on Britain today. At KS4 the Edexcel curriculum provides students with the opportunity to study units including Crime and Punishment, The American West, and Weimar and Nazi Germany. Students show a high level of interest in the subject and History continues to be one of our most popular option subject choices with around 150 students taking this as a GCSE option each year.
Our friendly and committed team consists of five history teachers, who have a passion for debating and evolving our History provision to ensure the best curriculum for our students. Enrichment is highly valued within the department with current members running history club, chess club and board games club. Annual visits to Heddingham Castle, Wardown Museum and the Clink Museum enhance our curriculum and offer students opportunities to explore history outside the classroom.
The successful candidate will have a passion for History and be able to display and promote excellence in teaching and learning and have the potential to make a real difference to the outcomes of our students.
We would welcome enquiries requesting further information and/or visits to the school. Please contact Mrs Tina Freeman, PA to the head teacher, telephone 01582 576561 or e-mail tfreeman@icknield.beds.sch.uk . Alternatively, please visit our web site www.icknield.beds.sch.uk
If you feel you have the necessary skills and experience for the above position and are interested in joining our staff team, please apply via the Vacancies page on the schools website https://www.icknield.beds.sch.uk/Vacancies/ or directly via My New Term.
Closing date: 22 April 2024 at 12 noon. We do reserve the right to close this advertisement early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications.
