Teacher of History and Politics required for September 2022 job summary

St Bonaventure's is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share the commitment. The suitability of the candidate will be assessed throughout the recruitment process

All appointments will be subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check.

We seek to appoint a qualified, driven and successful Teacher of History and Politics. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced or ECT (NQT) who has a passion for History and Politics and can teach creatively and inspire our students.

History at St Bonaventure's has a broad and balanced Key Stage 3 curriculum and is a popular GCSE and A-level choice. We aim to create the very best historians and entwine knowledge and skills.

We challenge students to think, act and speak like those working in the field would: to research thoroughly, to weigh-up evidence, to understand chronology, to evaluate sources and historical interpretations and develop arguments. We do this by a consistent approach across the department ensuring all students develop the range of skills needed to become confident in their own opinions, make well supported judgements and express them articulately using subject specific historical vocabulary.

We are looking for a team member who has a love of History and the enthusiasm and stamina to make a difference. We have a well resourced faculty with a range of trips on offer.

Politics at St Bonaventure's is a highly successful and popular A Level subject. Exam results show that the Department is consistently in the Top 20% of academic A Level providers in the country. We believe we offer a rich curriculum where students greatly enjoy learning about British and U.S. Politics and large numbers of our students progress onto Politics related degrees at University. The Department is committed to ensuring students gain a wider understanding of politics by offering enrichment activities including visiting Parliament, attending lectures at top universities and by meeting local MPs. We welcome someone who can continue to foster students' enthusiasm and love for Politics.

We are looking for someone who will work collaboratively to ensure the success and progression of our learners. You will have evidence of excellent classroom practice and high expectations of student attainment and behaviour.

We expect that you will have evidence of excellent classroom practice and high expectations of pupil attainment and, if overseas trained, that your professional qualifications are recognised in the UK by UK ENIC &/or the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA).

Commitment to safeguarding
