About our Academy
Charnwood College is an oversubscribed 11 to 18 school, which has seen significant improvements over the last five years. The most recent Ofsted inspection rated the school as Good in all areas stating that ‘Pupils at Charnwood College experience a culture of respect and positivity’ and that ‘Leaders have established an inclusive and calm environment in which pupils can learn’. About the role
The appointee will be joining the Humanities faculty here at Charnwood. The Humanities and Social Sciences faculty comprises of eight dedicated members of staff of varying experiences and specialisms. We teach a highly ambitious, fully resourced, curriculum from year 7 to year 11 and the subjects within the faculty prove a popular choice for our A level students.
This is a thriving area of the school which encompasses; History, Geography, Religious Studies, Business, Economics, Psychology and Sociology and covers all three key stages and as a consequence, the team work extremely closely together to support one another. Additionally, the humanities faculty has been growing and improving in recent years, with the average GCSE Progress score in humanities subjects last year being +0.57, with history in particular, having significantly higher than National Average grades and progress in the last exam year.
The ideal candidate will be someone who has a drive to grow and deliver excellence in every aspect of the job. We are looking for a motivated, hard working individual who will support and challenge all students and will work effortfully and deliberately, to improve outcomes for all and continue the trend of improving outcomes and retention within humanities.
They will be required to teach history at KS3,4 and potentially KS5; RE, currently at KS3 as well as possibly Geography also at KS3. At present, we do not offer GCSE RE at Charnwood, although all students have one taught lesson of RE each week. We are looking at expanding options by potentially offering GCSE RE in coming years, therefore the experience and ability to teach RE to and including KS4 is desirable, but we are more interested in getting the right candidate for the team and so we welcome all applications, provided you are enthusiastic and have a drive to improve.
This is a full time, permanent position and we would welcome applications from both ECTs and qualified teachers.

Charnwood College is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational, 11-18 academy with sixth form, situated in the west of Loughborough in Leicestershire. The academy is part of the David Ross Education Trust and is governed by a Local Governing Body.
The secondary academy has expressive arts facilities which include a dedicated music suite and dance and drama studio. In addition, its sports facilities include a floodlit, all-weather 3G sports pitch, a new sports centre, a 25-metre indoor swimming pool, a gym, a fitness suite, and extensive playing fields.
