We are seeking a part-time History Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will need to provide our students with an outstanding education in History, work collaboratively with departmental staff in our high performing department and have the desire to contribute significantly to our school.


The post will be for 60% FTE and it is expected that all candidates are able to teach across the full age and ability range within History. The post could also be full-time if the successful candidate is able to teach Geography to at least the end of KS3.

Purpose of the Job

History is a very large and successful department at Springwood High School. We have an established Knowledge Rich Curriculum which is fully resourced, providing History teachers a consistent set of resources for every lesson and a structured plan in a common format. We are the biggest single option subject at GCSE and two-thirds of the cohort opt for History in Year 10, corresponding to seven or eight classes in each KS4 year group. Student numbers are similarly good in Key Stage 5 where we consistently have two or three groups in the subject in both Year 12 and 13. There are currently six teachers in the department and our exceptional option numbers allows all staff to further their experience by teaching KS3-5. Teachers have their own classroom, which is well-equipped including access to screens, a visualiser and a range of textbooks and other History resources.


Geography is a very well equipped and vibrant department. Rooms are well stocked with recently replaced textbooks and atlases, high-definition smart displays for whole class teaching, visualisers and individual computers for small group teaching. Popularity of the subject continues to grow, and the department offers are number of trips and fieldwork opportunities across all key stages. The curriculum and lessons at KS3 have been developed though collaboration between Trust school and are fully resourced.

·        Within the designated curriculum area, to implement, deliver and contribute to the published scheme of work.

·        To shape the learning experience to motivate and encourage students to achieve their full potential.

·        To monitor the progress of students and provide support to ensure personal and academic growth.
