Teacher of History job summary

Come and join the History team at Weavers Academy! There is a real movement taking place in the History and wider Humanities curriculum area.

With the appointment of new leadership in History, Geography and RE together with exciting bespoke, developmental opportunities for pedagogical innovation, learning and progress have rapidly improved. Students enjoy History and this was commented on recently by Ofsted: ‘there is a real buzz about learning at the school’. We place great emphasis on developing independent learning.

Colleagues that work within the Humanities areas are intensely collaborative. There are currently 4 full-time History specialists. They share lead practice in a variety of ways and provide each other with developmental support through joint-practice development.
Collaboration, joint-planning and team-teaching is at the heart of our ethos and all teachers are involved in these aspects on a regular basis. This is what has led to our growing success.

This is an exciting time to join the History team. The school has the confidence of the community and is a first-choice for large numbers of parents. Our roll is expanding and therefore the provision of History is increasing, particularly in KS4 and at A level.

History Curriculum

Outside the core, History is a very popular subject and regularly recruits one of the largest GCSE cohorts.

Students follow the AQA History specification which they study in Years 10 and 11. Students have seven 1 hour periods per cycle (2 weeks).

In KS3 all students have two 1 hour History lessons per fortnight. These are particularly focused on:
Acquiring and developing historical knowledge including how to critique, assess and evaluate sources; and
Establishing a deep love of learning in the subject and building a firm foundation for further study in KS4 and beyond.

In KS5, students have eight 1 hour lessons per fortnight.
We are strong practitioners within PiXL and within the CET academy family of schools. We provide school-to-school support and enjoy being part of wider collaboration and national initiatives.

Commitment to safeguarding

Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.

Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance.

Offers of employment may be subject to the following checks (where relevant):
childcare disqualification
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
medical
online and social media
prohibition from teaching
right to work
satisfactory references
suitability to work with children

You must tell us about any unspent conviction, cautions, reprimands or warnings under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975.
