Teacher of History job summary
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the dynamic staff team at West Park School for September 2022. The successful candidate will be appointed as either, Teacher of Geography or Teacher of History.
The Humanities team operate within an extremely successful, dynamic and well-resourced faculty. It offers a challenging, stimulating and supportive environment in which you will thrive as a teacher and build your career. In Years 7-9, pupils are taught Humanities and learn from a contemporary curriculum with both breadth and depth, switching between Geography, History and Religious Studies several times throughout each year. The skills for success at GCSE underpin all units in each of the subjects. Despite being taught as three subjects, they are viewed holistically as a trinity of Humanities learning, with all teachers teaching Religious Studies at GCSE. We seek applicants with drive and enthusiasm who can bring their own expertise and experience to the team.
The Geography Department delivers the Eduqas (formerly WJEC) Specification B GCSE qualification. This is made up of three components, each of which are examined. Component 1 is split into three cross-disciplinary themes: Theme 1: Changing places – changing economies; Theme 2: Changing environments, and; Theme 3: Environmental challenges. Component 2 is problem solving geography, which is a cross-theme paper. Component 3 is the fieldwork enquiry on which pupils are examined on their experiences of fieldwork, several of which are conducted off-site during the course.
The History Department delivers the AQA GCSE qualification. This is made up of four units, each of which are examined. The first two units are Wider World Studies: American Expansionism 1840-1895 and Conflict and Tension 1884-1918. The second paper examines two British Studies: Health and the People and Norman England.
