Teacher of History with Geography job summary

The Humanities department comprises of 12 full-time Humanities teachers, including 3 Curriculum Leaders who oversee Geography, History and Religious Studies. We work collaboratively to support each other both with the demands of our work and our wellbeing. Being an all-through school allows us to also work closely with Primary colleagues and share best practice between Phases to ensure smooth transition for students on entry into the Secondary Phase. There are also exciting plans to extend our Post-16 provision.

The Humanities department offers a broad and ambitious curriculum that empowers teachers to tailor learning to their students' academic, social and emotional needs. Planning is centralised as we aim to work collaboratively, but teachers are encouraged to select sources and material suitable to the learners in their classes and have flexibility in how they address learning objectives to ensure the best outcomes for their students. KS4 students study AQA specifications and benefit from experienced and knowledgeable teachers who employ retrieval practice to ensure students are prepared for their exams. Like the Academy results as a whole, the most recent GCSE results saw students making good progress: P8 was the highest it has been in the Academy's history and the gaps between the progress of SEN and Pupil Premium students continues to narrow. Aylesbury Vale Academy has outperformed all other local non-selective schools.

GCSE humanities subjects are popular choices at The Aylesbury Vale Academy. Currently, there are 5 Geography, 5 History and 2 Religious Studies Year 11 classes.

The successful candidate will be passionate about learning, have strong inter-personal skills, be resilient and be an excellent teacher. The ideal candidate will have great subject knowledge. A proven track record of success with delivering GCSE Geography, History and/or Religious Students would be an advantage.

Commitment to safeguarding

Our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children will be reflected throughout the recruitment process and the successful applicant will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check and an online screening check. We also carry out Enhanced DBS checks every five years.
