Teacher of Geography (Humanities) with ability to teach Philosophy and Ethics job summary
Teacher of Geography (Humanities) with ability to teach Philosophy and Ethics
Pay scale: MPS/UPS
Start date: September 2024
The Geography department at Ridgeway is a welcoming and supportive environment for staff and students. We aim to provide a Geography curriculum rich in scope and depth and that inspires students to enquire independently. We have high expectations of our learners and the work that they produce. The 8 ladders of progress are used as a guide for students to become better geographers and students are often involved in creative tasks and lots of fascinating homework projects. At KS4 and KS5 students enjoy a wide range of opportunities and work towards the AQA Geography GCSE and A-level. We have our own classrooms with light and spacious design, visualisers and large screens and whiteboards. We have models, games, demonstrations, globes, atlases and textbooks to support our learners. Students also use their chrome books for research tasks and investigations.
We have developed an exciting range of fieldwork opportunities including trips to Dorset, Wales, Bristol, France and Iceland and were recently recognised for our school field trips by the School Travel Awards and were finalists in the school trip category. Students are able to take on leadership roles within the department and are regularly involved in competitions, events and extra-curricular activities. With the help of students, we are currently building a pond and wildlife garden which will help us to integrate sustainability into the curriculum and undertake further fieldwork around the school site. This also includes a weather station that we have set up. We are beginning to build links with a school in Japan that we also hope will lead to fieldtrips and curriculum links in the future. We are looking forward to welcoming you to the department.
